Savory Comfort: Classic Shepherd's Pie Recipe



Ingredients:


1 lb ground beef or lamb

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 carrots, diced

1 cup frozen peas

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 cup beef or vegetable broth

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups mashed potatoes

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons butter, melted

Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions:


Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or lamb over medium heat until cooked through. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the cooked meat, and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.

Stir in the diced carrots and frozen peas, and cook for another 5 minutes.

Add the tomato paste, beef or vegetable broth, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet, and stir to combine.

Sprinkle the flour over the meat mixture, and stir until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish, and spread it out evenly.

Spread the mashed potatoes over the top of the meat mixture, smoothing it out with a spatula.

Drizzle the melted butter over the mashed potatoes.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes are golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
